The Foundation is Everything.

The Foundation is Everything.

Today I decided to do a simple black and white, pencil portrait study. The photo of the drawing got the most likes so far on my new IG page. This page was just intended to have a walking look-book for galleries. Although, I had already had the assumption that this drawing would attract attention because it exemplifies skills and rules of art before I break all of them down in my expressionistic paintings. Hence, why today I find myself discussing the foundation of things, specifically that of whatever passion you find yourself involved in on a regular basis. Whether it is yoga, martial arts, art, a sport, or any type of business venture you do, the foundation is extremely pivotal yet often forgotten about once a few years into the practice.

Here is the drawing mentioned above. It was my fiance who sat for me for a couple hours. Great model :)! So handsome!

I do my best to make an effort to regularly check up on my skills in every area of my passions. Every couple years I take a foundation massage class, every now and again I draw a still life or portrait in all the mundane rules I had been given in school. I take level one yoga classes regularly because I love time and energy put into each pose deepening my understanding of strength, flexibility, and alignment. Each time I do these exercises, whether art or physical, I find myself learning new things about myself and the world around me. My balance becomes clearer and along with my connection to self and what I am doing in the present moment.

I urge you to think about your passions and some of the first steps  you took growing into them. See if you can get yourself back into a level 1 class and humble yourself to learning it all over again as a new student. I find if you act as you don't know more will come than assuming you already know. An open mind can be filled, but a full mind doesn't have as much room to grow.

Later yesterday evening, a schmoozing event with free tapas. An artist will always go if there is free food. Also, it is important to remember to socialize when you run your own business.

Open that mind, don't assume, do your best. No one can expect anymore from you than that. You are on that path of figuring out with the rest of us so enjoy the ride for now and don't forget to map the path you took (from A to Z) as you enjoy the scenery along the way. A guide may help you in the end.

Blessings,

Brook
